ANALYSIS OF VARIANCE
December 2019, Paper-II
Question Analysis of variance is carried out by using:
a) t-test
b) z- test
c) 𝜒2 test
d) F- test
Answer D
Analysis of variance (ANOVA) is a collection of statistical models and their associated estimation procedures (such as the “variation” among and between groups) used to analyze the differences among group means in a sample. The term F-test is based on the fact that these tests use the F-statistic to test the hypotheses. An F-statistic is the ratio of two variances and it was named after Sir Ronald Fisher. ANOVA uses the F-test to determine whether the variability between group means is larger than the variability of the observations within the groups. If that ratio is sufficiently large, you can conclude that not all the means are equal.
